Chillin’ With The Running Club

Snow and icy conditions tried their hardest, but couldn’t stop Ashbourne Running Club and The A52s from getting to The Royal Oak at Mayfield for the end of season party last night. Both club and band are a hardy bunch and the event was very well attended.

The Running Club were a friendly crew and the venue was a pleasant, spacious function room with good acoustics. The Club generously provided food for the band which always goes down well. We were also thoroughly bamboozled by the magician guy who roamed the room. After bell ringing (!), the speech and awards, the band kicked into their set, playing the more upbeat half of their repertoire. The great thing about playing to a running club is that the dancers tend to be energetic, fit and healthy 😉 . No couch potatoes that we could see!

At the end of the night, it was no easy matter getting home. The outside temperature as we left the pub was -12.5 C! Luckily the gear fitted in Lewis’s trusty Discovery, which got us over the sheet ice very nicely.

Hope you have a good rest Ashbourne Running Club – and good luck for the 2011 season!
