New Year’s Eve Gig A’comin’…

The gig will start around 9pm and we”ll be playing until shortly before 1am. Hope to see you there!

The A52s Are Recording Again!

This weekend, A52s have been ‘back in the studio’ working on their all important Christmas number one single. The studio was actually Rob’s garage – the roof of which has been converted into a nifty space where drums can be properly set up and there was just enough space for Stan, the rest of the band and the recording equipment. Stan set up the (rather complex) gear and ensured the raw recorded material was just so.

We’re rather chuffed with the early results. Stan has produced a preliminary mix and you can hear it by clicking on the ‘play’ button here:

We just need to add the sleigh-bells now….

Friday Night Fun At The Red Lion

What a great way to spend a Friday night! The band started the evening with a delicious curry courtesy of Anne and Chris, then headed off down the road to The Red Lion in Hollington. This friendly pub is Chris and Anne’s local. What a great pub it is – full of charm, great beer and friendly people.

The set was a delight to play. We particularly enjoyed seeing Chad substitute song lyrics with choices from the pub menu written up on the wall opposite.

Thanks to everyone who turned up – especially Sue and Nigel. Great to see you! Thanks also to landlord Terry for making us feel welcome. We’ve even arranged a return performance on New Year’s Eve. Hope to see you there!

The Legend of Beürtelœppener

Meet Beürtelœppener, Norse god of refreshment:

According to ancient mythology, Beürtelœppener left Valhalla ten thousand years ago in search of mead and merriment. After many many perils and adventures, he finally settled in Noble Studios where he watches over The A52s.

Beürtelœppener is a demanding fellow. He must be fed crown corks every few minutes or he gets angry and sings Nordic pop songs. The band can only take so much Aha, so we are careful to offer our pagan friend many liquid sacrifices.

Promises Promises

About a year ago, The A52s were ‘won’ at an auction of promises. It took us a while to find a date when all concerned were available, but last night was that night.

The venue was a fantastic covered area at the property of Mark Bailey near Carsington Water. Mark’s firm supplies dairy equipment to many of the farms in our area. Two of the walls were open to give the gig an outdoors feel, whilst the roof ensured that there were no worries about rain. The acoustics were great and there was plenty of space for all six of us who were playing. Dr Mike had come up from Hampshire and was providing the percussion for the evening. Nicely busked sir!

The audience were brilliant. A great bunch of friendly people who showed they could dance in all sorts of groovy ways! We gave a few new songs their first public outing and seemed to be able to get through them ok.

Many thanks to Janet, Mark and everyone else who showed us such warm hospitality. The refreshments were great and the curry/chilli were delicious.

Hope to see you all again soon from all of us in The Inland Beach Boys!
